Astrid Heyerdahl, Curator of the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art and Executive Director of the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists, addresses participants of an afternoon event held by CFUW North Vancouver at the gallery on May 12, to raise funds for a scholarship to the Artists for Kids program. The event consisted of a tea and talk about the gallery’s current exhibition of Chinese-Canadian multimedia artist Gu Xiong’s work, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. Event proceeds will fund a scholarship enabling a talented North Vancouver secondary school student to attend a five-day camp led by distinguished Canadian artists at the Paradise Valley Summer School of Art near Squamish, BC.

Session 2 FOCUS ON YOUR FUTURE
Financial Well Being
Wednesday, January 23, 2013
The Summerhill, 135 West 15th Street, NV.
Women, Money and Financial Wellness
Women are taking increasing financial control of Canada’s resources as business owners, income earners and investors. Women initiate 50% of businesses in Canada and we have the largest percentage of female business owners in the industrialized world. Currently, women own 50% of Canada’s assets and it is estimated that by 2019, women will control 70% of this country’s assets! Author Tom Peters labelled this trend, a “demographic tsunami”.
And yet, the financial services industry continues to ignore the obvious fact that women need a different approach at all stages of financial servicing because:
- our life circumstances are different
- we think differently about money
- we learn in specific ways
- we communicate differently
In this lively discussion of women, money and financial wellness we looked at the research and our own experiences to create a template for financial wellness that is both inspiring and practical.
