Both our North Shore CFUW Clubs have recently learned that their applications for funding again for Education Awards have been successful.  This means that each club can again offer awards as we have in the last few years for study at BC post-secondary institutions. The letters of thanks from recipients of these awards indicates the value in terms of monetary assistance as well as encouragement to pursue their future educational plans.

We are grateful to the Ministry of Finance through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch that make this money available for worthwhile projects in BC.

CFUW West Vancouver thanks  Maestro Bramwell Tovey for his outstanding presentation at our September 30 fundraiser.  Maestro Tovey entertained the audience with his warm manner, personal anecdotes and wonderful selections at the piano.  Proceeds from the evening are going to support scholarships and bursaries for women’s education.

Astrid Heyerdahl, Curator of the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art and Executive Director of the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists, addresses participants of an afternoon event held by CFUW North Vancouver at the gallery on May 12, to raise funds for a scholarship to the Artists for Kids program. The event consisted of a tea and talk about the gallery’s current exhibition of Chinese-Canadian multimedia artist Gu Xiong’s work, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. Event proceeds will fund a scholarship enabling a talented North Vancouver secondary school student to attend a five-day camp led by distinguished Canadian artists at the Paradise Valley Summer School of Art near Squamish, BC.
